Aircraft detection lighting systems (ADSL) for wind turbines are the topic of the hour. In order to increase the acceptance of wind turbines among the population, the obstruction lights should in future only flash nationwide if an aircraft is actually in the vicinity of a wind turbine.
Since 2020, AviaCert has been designated by the German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV) as the official type approval body and has since been supporting numerous wind energy operators and technical equipment suppliers in the implementation as well as manufacturers in the approval of ADSL.
Irrespective of the basic certification of a ADSL within the scope of a type examination, site-specific expert opinions and tests and, in some cases, functional tests must be carried out before the final use of a ADSL. These tests serve to ensure the safe and unrestricted operation of the ADSL at the specific installation site.
